SquadCast by Descript Review 2026

SquadCast is the remote recording room inside Descript: guests join from a browser, everyone gets a separate audio track, and the recording lands directly in Descript where the AI transcribes and edits it like a document. That recording-to-editing flow is the smoothest in podcasting, which is why it built a loyal following after Descript acquired it.

What makes SquadCast technically distinct is reliability. Each participant's audio is recorded locally on their own device rather than streamed raw over the internet, so a guest on shaky Wi-Fi still produces a studio-quality track. Progressive Upload pushes the recording to the cloud in small chunks during the session, which means a dropped connection, a browser crash, or a power outage never destroys the take. Those two features are why interview podcasters trust it for live guests: the worst thing that can happen is a reconnection, not a lost conversation.

Now the part you need to know before you adopt it: Descript has said SquadCast is no longer in active development. The plan is to eventually replace it with Descript Rooms, once Rooms reaches feature parity, and no date is set. Descript has promised at least three months notice before any sunset, so existing users are not being cut off tomorrow. But if you are choosing a remote recording workflow today, it is fair to weigh that roadmap against the product.
