What is SquadCast by Descript?
SquadCast is the remote recording room inside Descript: guests join from a browser, everyone gets a separate audio track, and the recording lands directly in Descript where the AI transcribes and edits it like a document. That recording-to-editing flow is the smoothest in podcasting, which is why it built a loyal following after Descript acquired it.
Now the part you need to know before you adopt it: Descript has said SquadCast is no longer in active development. The plan is to eventually replace it with Descript Rooms, once Rooms reaches feature parity, and no date is set. Descript has promised at least three months notice before any sunset, so existing users are not being cut off tomorrow. But if you are choosing a remote recording workflow today, it is fair to weigh that roadmap against the product.
The tool itself is included with Descript plans, Hobbyist at $16 a month or Creator at $24. If you already record with Descript, keep using it. If you are starting fresh, knowing the replacement is coming should be part of the decision. Pricing checked August 8, 2026.
