MiniMax Design Review 2026

MiniMax Design, launched August 20, 2026, is the most direct attempt yet at fixing what everyone pretends is fine about AI video. The underlying H3 model still generates 15 seconds per clip. What changed is what sits on top: a workbench where agents break down your script, lay out the shots, generate keyframes, produce the video, add music, captions, and edits, and hand you a finished film. MiniMax's own examples run from a 42-second short story to a three-minute documentary, roughly a dozen shots with character likeness, wardrobe, lighting, and camera language matching across all of them. That consistency is the problem being solved.

The structure will look familiar if you have watched the coding-agent wave. H3 handles shot generation only; agents handle style consistency and timeline organization; a harness checks back at key points to confirm the core direction; and you can interrupt at the keyframes. The 3D director's console is the most distinctive piece: you place characters, set camera angles and poses, and what you build becomes the storyboard reference handed to the model. You are not prompting a video, you are blocking a scene.

Design assembles five pieces: the workflow canvas, the director's console, an asset hub, a Skills library of style templates, and specialized agents for copy, image, video, and audio. One detail matters for existing producers: ComfyUI workflows import directly, so tuned node graphs come over as-is. MiniMax names its targets plainly: short dramas, bulk e-commerce production, brand commercials, promotional material, explainers, and music videos, high volume, tight turnaround, low per-piece budgets.

The limits: pricing was still unpublished when we wrote this, and the example films are MiniMax's own demonstrations, which is exactly the claim to treat with skepticism.
